ABOUT STEFFEN BROTHERS
Born from obsession and hand built to hand down.
Since 1980 Steffen Brothers has invested thousands of hours in testing materials and zeroing in on the mathematical tapers, spigot ferrules, and other signature features that drive performance. We build each rod by hand in the U.S.A.
Steffen Brothers - Mark & Tim Steffen
Since 1980 Mark & Tim have crafted the world most popular fiberglass fly rods. All made in America, in small batches by hand.

The ingenuity of these two was absolutely incredible, and what they managed to achieve in a small garage in Flagstaff is astounding.
We're proud to keep every component of a Steffen Brothers Fly Rod made in the USA, just like it has been over 43 years. Small batch, made by experienced hands - every fly rod is crafted with love and artistry. Plus, our S2 glass and graphite layups are unlike any other on the market!
Shane Gray - Owner
In February 2021, Shane took over the leadership of the Steffen Brothers' enterprise. Even prior to 2021, Shane had been crafting many of the rods as he underwent training with the brothers in Flagstaff, AZ.
A true Michigan man, Shane is a full time rod builder, and fly fishing innovator. When he is not chasing the "perfect" build, or, the next greatest rod tech innovation, he chases trout, bass, steelhead and salmon.

When you receive your new rod, know that Shane personally built, finished, packed, and shipped it just for you. The script on your new rod? That's Shane's handwriting.
Mike McFarland - Blank Engineer
In 2023, we moved our blank production to the expertise of the 'godfather of glass' in Pennsylvania. Mike's significantly larger operation has tremendously aided our blank production efforts.

Mike McFarland grew up fly fishing the famous limestone steams of central Pennsylvania. Chasing these selective trout helped hone his casting skills and set him on a quest for perfected rod designs. Mike is an accomplished tournament caster and a 4 time winner of the Hardy Cup. After more than 30 years of building and designing rods he is well known around the world and works as a design consultant for numerous rod companies. His rods are regarded by many as the finest ever made.
JOEL SHENK - Rod Builder
Joel Shenk began fly fishing for trout in high school on the creeks and rivers of western PA. Since moving to Toledo, OH in 2010 he has enjoyed expanding his fly rod pursuits into smallmouth and steelhead.
He enjoys the creative, hands-on craftsmanship of rod building and finds it to be a nice compliment to his full-time vocation of pastoral ministry.

Joel specializes in wrapping rods for Graywolf, Steffen Brothers, and Brook & Brown Co. His productivity is unmatched, wrapping more rods in a month than many do in a year. His meticulous attention to detail and relentless pursuit of excellence and perfection are evident in each rod.
